This is Hindi Oud Super — not the double super, not the triple super grading some houses stack onto their listings, simply Super, sold as what it is. The chips are left unpolished: no sanding, no cosmetic finishing, presented exactly as they came off the tree. Completely natural.

The wood is harvested in Moulvibazar, in Bangladesh's Sylhet region — a district that was administered as part of Assam province under British rule until the 1947 partition placed it in East Pakistan, and later Bangladesh. The forests here sit within the same agarwood belt that has long fed the Hindi oud trade, and harvesting in this part of Sylhet reaches back generations. In fact from many sources it is said that Hindi Oud Trade began in Bengal before it reached other parts of Indian Subcontinent, Wallahu A'lam.

Hindi oud has earned its reputation among connoisseurs across the Arab world for its bold, resinous, leathery character — among the most sought-after profiles for the mabkhara. A few chips set over charcoal fill a room in a way nothing else quite can; a house may be furnished with every luxury available and still not carry the atmosphere that rises with that first curl of smoke. It's this quality, more than any object, that has kept oud at the center of Arab hospitality for so long — and simply a delight to burn and sit with.

هذا عود هندي من درجة "سوبر" — وليس 2x ولا 3x كما تُصنّف بعض البيوت منتجاتها، بل سوبر كما هي، تُباع على حقيقتها. القطع غير مصقولة: لا صنفرة ولا تجهيز تجميلي، بل تُعرض تماماً كما قُطفت من الشجرة. طبيعية بالكامل.

يُحصد هذا العود في مولوي بازار، بمنطقة سيلهت في بنغلاديش — وهي منطقة كانت تُدار كجزء من إقليم آسام في ظل الحكم البريطاني، إلى أن وضعت تقسيمات عام 1947 حدوداً جديدة ألحقتها بباكستان الشرقية، ثم أصبحت لاحقاً جزءاً من بنغلاديش. تقع غابات هذه المنطقة ضمن الحزام نفسه الذي أمدّ تجارة العود الهندي منذ زمن طويل، وتمتد تقاليد الحصاد فيها عبر أجيال.

اكتسب العود الهندي سمعته بين هواة العود في العالم العربي بفضل طابعه القوي الراتنجي الجلدي — من أكثر الأنواع طلباً لدى أصحاب المباخر. فبضع قطع فوق الفحم تملأ المكان بطريقة لا يضاهيها شيء آخر؛ فقد يُؤثّث البيت بأفخم ما يوجد ولا يبلغ تلك الأجواء التي ترتفع مع أول خيط من الدخان. وهذه الخاصية، أكثر من أي شيء آخر، هي ما أبقى العود في قلب الضيافة العربية على مر العصور — ومتعة، ببساطة، في حرقه ومجالسته.
